What is the Political future of our country?

President Mohamed Naheed
MDP (Mob Driven Party)
President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom
PPM (Please Pray for Maldives)

The Birth of Progressive Peoples Movement (PPM), and its literal merging with Peoples Alliance Party (PAP), is seen by many as a family conglomeration engineered by Mr. Yameen Abdul Gayoom, seizing an opportunity for a family come back to power.

It’s true; MDP popularity is now at an all-time low across the country and it has been losing support.  It is difficult to gauge how this party will fair in the 2013 elections.  For sure, there is no party with the strength and legs that will sign an alliance with the MDP. People and political insiders of MDP alike have lost trust in the party and its leadership.  MDP has transformed itself from the (Maldivian Democratic Party) to the (Most Distrusted Party) in the Maldives.

What the game plan running up to the 2013 election would be is the multi-million dollar question.  In all likelihood MDP will have to go solo.  Running solo, it will not be able to secure 51% of the votes to retain power.  Here is a rationale. Since coming to power in 2008, MDP governed with vengeance and misgiving, and we the people are sick and tired to our teeth, and will respond with vengeance and misgiving.

Sources close to GMR has made it clear that finance will be made available for MDP to get voted into office.  So in all likely hoods MDP will pump money into the electorate, through their (CASH FOR VOTES) plan in the 2013. Will this make a difference in the minds of the suffering majority of the Maldivian suffrage?  I’d rather not contemplate on the outcome.  Here’s a response.  “Once bitten twice shy”, “A goat that scaled a fence will clamber another” there is the Dhivehi version of this too.

So no matter how guided one is by the belief that the twenty-third hour will see the MDP’s cash for vote program turn the situation around, people believe that MDP’s Cash for Vote program is not be money “given”, but money “returned”.

The anger and the hopelessness of the destitute becomes apparent listening to the FM Radio Call shows in Male. For sure, they are not all choreographed and premeditated though some maybe. The vast majority of the callers appear to be speaking impromptu with emotion. Those calls tell a story about our future. If one was to crap these cries as just radio hogwash, it doubtlessly is a reflection of the measure and degree of delusion he is living with.

All eyes are now on PPM.  MDP is worried to their last tooth.  President Nasheed has kick-started his Presidential race already. The recklessness of the president in his haste to win is making mistakes, video tapes of him arguing with the public who don’t see eye to eye with are been made public. Bear in mind, he has a ton of restless and disgruntled members within his party ranks. Sources inside MDP confirm that Mr. Didi; MDP President are Mr. Moosa Maniku (Reeko) are prepared for any eventuality if and when required.  “There is a moment of time in our lives when we simply have to stand up and say enough is enough.  That time has now come.” said MDP insider.

It is unconceivable that any political party will rally behind MDP in 2013. So it will go solo.  We then look at the two next big parties. The PPM and the DRP, both of which are the makings of ex-President Maumoon (the Political Party Maker) success will depend on the party that manages most amount of productive tie ups (obviously). This is not rocket science or something for which a British con artist should be hired at a cost of couple of hundred thousand US Dollars.

Surprisingly, people still love and adore Mr. Gayoom. If that is the wish of the people, we have to respect it and Mr. Gayoom.  If at all possible in the first round, it would be “Maumoonamania” that could sway the tide to win the general election of 2013. There is nothing called “Anniamania” and there never will be. However, there is something called “Aniya mania” an obsession the President is suffering from, and the people hate him for that.

Police Brutality in Maldives: Will it stop?

From age old days, rulers of Maldives have used the armed forces and Police for defending themselves from the citizens. Every tenure of presidency ended when the uncontrollable brutality of the Police and the armed forces against its citizen became the impetus to a revolution to change the regime.

Recall when Anni (the current President) strategized to come to power not long ago. Police resorted to brutal force. He claimed they kicked him, punched him, imprisoned him, gave him food with glass particles, kept him in isolation etc. etc. the list goes on and on to an endless array of brutal activities in its greatest manifestation.

Police who brutally beat citizens will realize the pain only when we as citizens inflict pain on them Anni said then. For this statement the Police took up the case against him. His spokesman Zuhair said we would trap these brutal people and will hold them responsible for their actions.

Due to the uncontrollable police brutality towards the citizens, and the weakness of the previous regime to control the police, citizens rose against the former regime and brought about this change, hoping for a stop to police brutality and a more citizen oriented government. For all their efforts and sacrifices, what did the people get? A better equipped and a more brutal police force with more arsenals in their reserve, forcing more oppression and more open brutal enigma.

Why did this happen? Why did Anni change course? Why did he go back on his promises and re enforce them? Why has Anni allowed the perpetrators to enjoy better days with more perpetrations against their citizens? The answer is simple and easy to understand.

Anni is suffering from a decease called "Split Personality Compulsive Syndrome" (SPCS) Anni the victim and Anni the President are percieved by him as different people. Anni is an obsessed personality, obsessed by the incidence that he was put through as a child when his father was arrested sentenced and jailed for planning and stagging a coup to overthrow the Nasir regime. Anni was yet a kid then. As the President now he enjoys using and abusing the same strategies and methods used by previous regimes to consolidate and remain in Power.

Anni now supports Police brutality, he believes this will help him to continue in power. He encourages and turns a blind eye to the brutal actions of the Police against peaceful demonstrators. Consequently, the Police is reassured by the once there enemy Anni the victim now Anni the President to continue their Brutality and become even better at it.

So the legacy of Police brutality continues and will continue for ages to come like it has continued for ages till today. Victims die, people suffer and the brutality continues. A moral and principled citizen would ask but why should a sane citizen of the same country inflict pain and torture to another; his neighbor? The answer to this is also very plain and simple,
The Police force is brain washing and they are made to believe again and again that the enemy within is the citizens of the country. To serve and to protect is the Ruler against who? Against the citizens. Isn't this how dictators ruled? Isnt this how Phoraphs ruled? Isn’t this how we were ruled? You answer the questions within your subconscious.

Coming back to my question, will the Police brutality stop? I believe No!. MDP, DRP, PPM QP NQP or even if any other PP comes to power, the legacy will continue, if left as it is. People have a choice to accept the brutality and internalize it or do not accept it and be victimised and continue.

Police Brutality could be stopped only when the electorate (voters) leave behind their allegiance to the idiosyncratic politricians misleading’s, and hold them to account by voting in capable, dedicated and efficient fellows from among themselves to represent them to the legislature.

If Anni, the man who was vanquished on the streets, thrown and treated like dirt making us believe he will turn the table around, when in power actually only reinforced police brutality. It is very clear now then to us that Anni has failed as a leader, and it’s time for him to step down and for us to bring about change in 2013.

Hey Walla 2013

Do you remember the story about managing the Maldives and its economy and feeding all the people of Maldives with the income of a single resort? Do you recall the Magical Mystical trip in which Mohamed Nasheed would sail us to Anneh Dhivehi Raajje? Were rivers of blessed wine would flow beneath our feet and Ganjarettes would be served by Hooraleens? We were fooled, see what befell the fools. Instead of landing in Anneh Dhivehi Raajje, we landed in Anni’s Dhivehi Raajje.

The difference two characters can make in the life of a nation and its people is that of Prosperity and Poverty. We voted for “ANNEH” we got “ANNI”. The “Kanmathee Fihaara” was only a propaganda stunt. They were "Castles built in the air” (Hawaa gai elhi Ganduvaru) by President Mohamed Nasheed (Anni).

Having said that, I trust you will take this one even more serious. “There is, but only so much you can do about the circumstance you are in, mindful or wronged by a pseudo-principled, brutal regime whose repressive economic policies are annihilating the population.”
So having jumped from the frying pan into the fire, don’t justify the situation hoping the fire would someday be extinguished. Stop deceiving yourselves that it’s only your feet that will burn, and that those burns could be treated at IGMH. It’s a lot of BS. Instead say it hurts when it does. And try to do something about it; your two cents worth to rid this society from the menace of rip-off dealers , fly by night millionairs and swindlers and immature politicians playing politricks with our lives, lets make a solemn oath to vote the MDP out in 2013.

Take heed, we Maldivians have been ripped and rapped time and time again by invading pirates, colonial powers and poli-tricians from among ourselves, like the waves that batter our shows. But we survived. We survived as a nation and we survived as a people. Despite everything this government is and could do to hurt our Pride, Our Culture, Religious Values and National identity, we should survive. Just like those waves that drain back to the sea. Mr. Mohamed Nasheed and MDP must be back in the streets and dark alleys of Male, where they belong.
