A “BRIDGE”: the Last Promise of a Failing Dictator.

Submitted by Capt. Shafiu Gasim
The Last Promise: A BRIDGE between Male and Hulhumale.

In one form or another Maldives was ruled by a Dictator since time immemorial. As the society progressed and its people became educated, the push for democracy and freedom intensified. Finally, in 2008 President Gayoom had to succumb to the pressure from the public and Alas! Maldivians got the Democracy and Freedom they called for.

During the campaign of the first free and fair elections, the last promise Mr. Gayoom made to the people was a “Bridge”.  It was going to be a Bridge between Male and Hulhumale. It was the last sigh of the ailing President who had run out of promises, short of fame, heavy with brutality, and forgotten moralities.
The election results confirmed Mohamed Nasheed better known as Anni to be President of Maldives from 2009 to 2013.  He came into power on a platform of promises to reinstate a better economy, better salaries, better transportation, lower prices, and houses for the homeless, and a state of art health program for all Maldivians.

Maldivians were more than willing to forgive Anni, for the blunders made due to his inexperience in public office at least during the honeymoon period of this new presidency. But as the days passed by the phenomena of Anni blundering became his usual way of decision making; like a dumb kid not learning from his own mistakes and repeating them. This led to the rise of the public’s agitation to a level of no return.

Anni’s disregard for democratic rational and values, ignoring Court decisions even those of the Supreme Courts of the land and in his zeal for protests and unrest coupled with his eloquence for rude speeches, dismayed the Public to a deeper abyss of hopelessness and mistrust in his leadership. All this added up to Public outrage on to the streets of Male. Day by day, the once peace loving people of Maldives became an antagonized public facing the brutality of an arbitrated Police force on its streets.

THE BRIDGE
To calm the situation and the anger of the people, Anni dug deep into the textbooks of Autocratic rulers; easily available by his bedside was the book on “The Deeds of Gayoom”, the very man he contested and won. In his dismay and desperation, with no one to turn to and no time to spare, he flipped through the pages to the final chapter of the book; THE LAST PROMISE. Panic stricken Anni found salvation.  It was the promise of a BRIDGE; the bridge between Male and Hulhumale.

Remarkably, like the last sigh of a once ailing President who had run out of promises in 2008, President Nasheed too; short of fame, heavy with brutality, and forgotten moralities wasted no time to announce his “BRIDGE” between Male and Hulhumale.

The thought may have come a little too late, for one could interpret the situation Anni the President of Maldives is in as catastrophic; a State of the Nation where

1.  Military abducting Chief Justice and political opponents.
2. Supreme Court Judges intimidated and terrorized by ruling party (MDP) thugs
3.       Daily protests both by the government and the opposition running late into the night
4.       Arbitrary arrests of citizens opposed to MDP by the Police Force have become a routine.
5.   Opposition Parliament Members are summarily arrested with brutal force.
6.       Economy has been brought down to its knees.
7.       Unemployment level is at an all-time high
8.       The evil is flourishing:  young men and women are flocking to take part in the Para military force of the ruling party.
9. High ranking government figures tendering resignation are on the rise
10.   Gang culture is on the rise, ruling the streets of male, terrorizing the public.
11.   Police force is incapable of stopping street violence, preoccupied by political vendetta assignments
12.   Free media is warned, it would be shut down if anti governments sentiments are aired.
13.   Social fabric of the society is torn to pieces
14.   All democratic institutions set up by the 2008 constitution is paralyzed
15.   The Maldivian dream is nearing its end.

Maldivian Spring has begun:

The beginning of the Maldivian Spring

Today Maldivians are witnessing a popular uprising against the Government. Maldivian Spring has begun.  Eighty per cent of the population in Maldives now wants a change in Government. There are many reasons for this; Nasheed came into power promising the people democracy and freedom of speech and the outgoing President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom who was forced to sign the new constitution has gave the Maldivian citizens freedom of thought and speech and brought in democracy for all citizens of Maldives.

However, today the people President Nasheed thought would guide him and give him good advice has taken the opportunity to take advantage of the new power they have got and has rupted the government into corruption never ever seen in thousand years in Maldivian History even when the Kings were ruling. Close aides and party top shots of MDP has siphoned out state funds and taken bribes from state public enterprises. This has forced President into a “catch 22” situation.

If he goes against the cronies and party top shots they are ready to dump him. (A party coup once cropped up and Nasheed managed to crush it). Hence the only alternative he has to allow the party top brass to get corrupt and keep his fingers crossed in the hope that he could bluff his way through the 2013 elections.

This strategy is very naïve of President Nasheed. He is counting on the armed forces and the police to protect him against the citizens. The top Brass of both the Armed Forces and the Police have been given massive amounts of cash to build their houses and take luxurious vacations on state funds.

Hoping to win the support of the citizens, President Nasheed unveils a medical scheme for all Maldivians. But little did he realize that the citizens are today smart enough to understand the short comings of this makeshift medical scheme. On the whole the scheme would face it own demise in 10 months due to unsustainability.

In spite of all these dazzling stuff to dwindle the citizen like a rattle snake, shaking its rattle. The Maldivian citizens have figured out that this is a real snake. And the overwhelming majority of people are now fed up of this undemocratic president Nasheed.

As a result  Nasheed cronies are now attacking the free media and the intelligent opposition lawyers for exposing  the corruption and mismanagement of state funds. Nevertheless, victory is for the true citizens of Maldives.

Open letter to Mr. Andrew A Harrison – Chief Executive Officer, INIA, Maldives.

Heywalla2013, please publish this Open letter to Mr. Andrew A Harrison – Chief Executive Officer, INIA, Maldives. (Ali Saleem)

They gave us an Airport

He took it away from us for a Few Dollars.

So dear Mr. Andrew A Harrison,

Now what? The court ruled against you.

How are you going to collect your $25.00 + another $2.00 for your ADC? Beginning January 01, 2012? Big blow in the face isn’t it?  Short shortsightedness and greed led you to where you are now. Don’t you think it’s better to be an ostrich than a CEO in INIA?  It's “Packing up time” for you Mr. Harrison and your Garrison in the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.

Managing the airport is not going to be easy anymore. With mentally sick people in your management team people such as Moosa Solih, Mohamed Hassan and relic such as Mohamed Solih. We are watching you closely, we will catch up with you every turn of the corner, no more increasing rents to take back home.

And please no more kickbacks for favors done. Let us take this opportunity to warn you “DON'T YOU KICK ANY MALDIVIAN OUT OF JOB IN THE NAME OF CUTTING COSTS”. However, if you wish to do so, do away with those who crossed you, provided the framework for legal thought that brought you face to face with your fist major disaster. The most prominent relics are mentioned FYI.

We were so overwhelmed and happy for our people who grieved over decision of this rouge government to lease the airport to GMR, we thought we’d share our joy and happiness over your first big loss the court case with you.  We as a people are indeed very happy, and to be honest even the members of the rouge government (most of them) rejoice with us.

No matter what Mr. Mohan Nasheed and Razee tell you, don’t think of taxing the poor people of Maldives any more than there already are.  The taxes and levies on us are draining us, with rising costs and falling standard of living, we are now paying through our noses to stay alive hoping and praying 2013 will be sooner and not later.

How are you going to tax the poor locals effective 1st of January 2012? We’d like to be the first passengers to be in your airport on the 1st of January 2012 for departure course. Would you tax us? I think you have some sense of what it means to rip off people. I urge you. Don’t do that. Do away with your rip off policies such as your ADC.

Tell you what. I’d like you to please remove that flash banner on your home page, the one with the advertisement about the ADC effective January 01, 2012... I know you don’t have the guts or the authority to collect tax. So please just remove the banner.
Thanks you. Love you man.

Serious Abuse of Diplomatic Protocol by the Maldivian Government

Uploaded: 10/24/2011

Minister of Foreign Affairs
Mr. Ahmed Naseem

MDP Chairman
Mr. Reeko Moosa Maniku
The state of mind of the members of MDP Pollitt bureau is evident from this document uploaded to scribd.com on 24th October 2011. It is a fabrication by the MDP Government Ranks and is a blatant abuse of Diplomatic Protocol that tantamount to nothing but forgery and abuse of authority.   This ploy by the MDP was covered with a letter supposedly from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  Although it was not printed on the Official Letter Head of the Ministry, the official rubber stamp of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the signature of the Foreign Minister Ahmed Naseem were on the letter.

Minister Naseem and his family had been involved in the plots to overthrow the government in the coup attempts of 1980, 1983, and 1988 the latter which was the worst that Maldives ever say in modern history, the November 3rd Attack on Maldivian Sovereignty with the help of Tamil Guerrilla that were fighting for a separate homeland in Sri Lanka.  Raised to ranks by radical President Mohamed Nasheed (Nephew), Naseem still seems to maintain his deceptive and murky mindset even on issues of national concern.

Little do the Minister and the Pollitt Bureau of the MDP realize that involving and thus implicating International Organizations like the UN and the UNDP in their national political pranks and tomfooleries fall short of civilized behavior expected of ruling parties and governments.  On the other hand it is not strange for a person like President Nasheed with the brain set little more than that of a teenager, to advice and motivate cronies to engage in discreditable activities such as demonstrating against the very judiciary handpicked and appointed by him, and publish documents and posts on the internet such as that referred to above.

Whilst there is little understanding and appreciation for the petty Political pranks and tomfooleries of national political parties within the UN framework, I am sure the UNDP and the family of UN organizations, condemn such acts. The simple justification that anyone could have done it is insufficient, when the signature of the Minister and rubber stamp of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appear on the covering letter to the document, the responsibility clearly lies on the Government of Maldives to find those perpetrators and stop such stupid and unqualified acts by senior officials of the Government. Given these harsh realities this Government could only be portrayed as been run by a bunch of Eighth Graders on summer holiday in Maldives.

Is this how we citizens of Maldives want our country and government to be perceived as? Everything is in disarray, our social fabric to our Economy, and now Diplomatic protocols and practices are being abused and falling apart.  To all the Maldivian Voters I say, Let us all call this Holiday frenzy to an end and get serious.  2013 is up around the bend, and we should use fair judgment and rational thinking in selecting our next government and its leaders.  Dire and desperate as we may be, and tired and overwhelmed by the long and difficult five years under MDP rule, do not get taken away by their CASH for the a VOTE program to remain in power for another term.  ENOUGH IS ENOUGH; we shall play by the written rule not the rule of the MOB or MOB DRIVEN PARTY’s such as MDP

PRESCRIPTION BEGGING OFFICIALY LAUNCHED BY IGMH

I believe that the MDP Government has officially launched its "Prescription Begging" program for the sick and needy. Please be ready with at least Rf. 50.00 in your hand to give out, when they come knocking at your door. After all although Anni and the rest of the gang are in France, Norway and Italy, those who ill afford are here knocking at your door. HELP them.

Madhana is soon to announce bankruptcy due to over expenditure and mismanagement (a symptomatic characteristic of MDP). Mr. Anni has already announced that with effect from January 2012, a new and much better medical insurance program will replace Madhana.... That's it.

Since MDP came to office in 2008, Madhana is headed by a person who have served term in jail for stealing a laptop from a shop.  ... The inevitable is here .

Download these documents, and distribute them freely, Perhaps it may prompt some rich guy to lend a helping had to the poor lady and his desparate family..  We hope that in so doing, it will put a stop to his insanity by MDP.

State of Maldives today (Poem)

(Dear Matthiasisoke, here is an peom for Maldives you may publish this freely on your Heywalla2013, and Thank you for your effort.)

Economy on a downhill,
Hunger on the rise,
Poverty on every street corner,
The Corner shop shut for ever,
The Yazeed of MIRA knocking on every door  and
The citizens on a bandwagon to hell.
Is this what we wanted in the change?.

Street tricks becoming government policy.
Street kids becoming government officials,
Street management getting neglected,
Street smart becoming important
Are we on the streets?

Skilled in protests, the answers to our prayers.
Skilled in protests, is what we consider great.
Skilled in protests, our leaders are,
Skilled in protests, our children aiming for.
Why do we need to study?

Cheating  to citizens our strategy.
Keep citizens wandering  our objective
Rob the citizens our tactics.
Believe in our lies our Euphoria.
Are we alive?

Sick and Tired the citizens of hearing the lies.
Filling the corridors of hospitals, crumbling with flies.
Waiting for a better day with open eyes,
When would we be able to sleep with closed eyes.

Why do you keep on making us hear your song
Telling us how you are changing right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"You haven't done nothing"!
