The Commonwealth and the Maldives

By Athif Ali
Commonwealth has put Maldives on the agenda in 2012 hoping they could destroy Maldivian society. Many secret meetings were held with Commonwealth Officials and the Maldivian Democratic Party (popularly known as Maldivian Dangerous People) in London. A close aide of Nasheed in the MDP’s echelon revealed the agreement with commonwealth and Nasheed as blatant and unbelievable. A Commonwealth top official in the London Office was promised a resort in Maldives if he moved Commonwealth to support Nasheed claim to presidency and pressure the current President to resign.

However absurd and dirty the deal is, the truth is just this. All these years when Nasheed’s government committed atrocities in Maldives, the Commonwealth turned a blind eye.  They said it was a domestic issue and that the people should decide. But today all issues both domestic and those addressed in the constitution has suddenly come to the attention of the Commonwealth and everything has to be done in accordance with Commonwealth wishes. This is so, because it’s a deal given to the commonwealth; riches for life from the Maldivian people only revenue tourism.  How dirty and barbaric can anyone be more than this?

The Maldivians today despise the Commonwealth. Every street corner and in every household the Commonwealth is seen as a Goliath trying to crush the little Maldives. The Maldivian Media gives a very virtuous account of Commonwealth bullying tactics on Maldives.  It’s like a leach preying on the vulnerability of this small island nation.  The reality is sad; the very institutions we thought would help us are pressurizing us and robbing us of our pennies just to keep them rich and happy (typically like the Sheriff of Nottingham). How could the rest of the Nations of the Commonwealth ignore and stand by in silence to watch the CMAG go ahead pressuring the legal Government to resign and restore to power a vicious mad and a dangerous man into power to keep the citizens under a tyrant.  It is not a surprise to us; CMAG members are mounting pressure on Maldives, because they were promised resorts in if they help Nasheed (the Maldivian Dictator and tyrant) come into power.

The Maldivian People must never give up hope. This country belongs to us. Neither Nasheed nor Commonwealth did anything to help the Maldives prosper. The defiance of the Maldivian People would prevail however poor we are, we are still nation of freedom loving people.  This is our land our native land. No Maldivian is going to bow to the pressures of Nasheed the Tyrant or the Commonwealth that has cut a deal with Nasheed.

We Maldivians urge Commonwealth Nations and the Queen, to look into the matter. History will not be kind to you, when such corrupt deals are made with rouge un-patriotic people like Nasheed.  Honorable Leaders of democratic Nations must not allow such dirty deals to be made during your watch.

Nasheed's Racist Twist

David Hardingham "Keeper of Nasheed"
One would never have thought that Commonwealth favorite Mr. Mohamed Nasheed was racist.  His British advisor and Keeper Mr. David Hardingham’s  last card in shear desperation has led this little cynical man who resigned from power under the influence of drugs to engage in racist activities as a means to regain power he surrendered on February 07, 2012.  Nasheed’s close aide Hora Ibbe said “I asked him not to go out there on the morning of February 7th. I knew he will blow it, because he was drinking heavily the night before at Muliaage.”

Nasheed’s Addiction to light drugs and alcohol had taken its toll on him. In his letter of resignation to the Speaker of Parliament he wrote, I resign from my position as President of Maldives, because I believe  I may cause harm to Maldives and its people if I stayed any longer as President.

His exhaustive struggle to regain power, he lost while under the influence of alcohol began the very next day 8th of February. Remarkably it was also the day the table turned. During his watch, Nasheed had ordered the use of pepper spray and rubber bullets on the Itthihaad coalition demonstrations when in power for 26 days. He faced tear gas and pepper spray for the first time on February 8, 2012. The breakup of the demonstrations on February 8th was not nearly as violent as it was in the preceding days of demonstrations by Itthihaad. However, the western press reported otherwise.

Now having exhausted all other means of mounting pressure, intimidating, disturbing the peace in the community, Nasheed has resorted to a unique racist approach.  The latest of his racist acts is to depict President Mohamed Waheed as a crow. Why? Because Dr. Waheed is born dark skinned, and the crow is black.

This latest plan is masterminded Mr. David Hardingham a British national and Christian preacher, Racist and Keeper of Mr. Nasheed.  Britain has yet to rid itself of the appalling racist ideology that was rooted in most all British colonies during the hay days of the British Empire.  Chair of Britain’s Commission for Racial Equality Trevor Phillips accused Britain of "sleepwalking toward apartheid" He said Britain is fragmenting into isolated racial communities.

The BBC has reported that the latest crime statistics appear to support Phillips' concerns. They show that race-hate crimes increased by almost 600 per cent in London in the month after the July 7 bomb attacks, with 269 more offences allegedly "motivated by religious hatred" reported to the Metropolitan Police, compared to the same period last year.

MDP Poster used in Demonstrations
MDP supporters rally the streets of Male with caged crows, and posters of President Waheed’s head in a crow's picture representing color hatred.  Nasheed and the MDP cult have put  Hardingham’s racist plan into full operation in Maldives.  Nasheed has shown his true colors. Without doubt he is the most terrible person that Maldives ever saw in the darn age in time.  One could without reasonably attribute  Nasheed in Maldives to Hitler in Europe for spreading so much hate and animosity among a nation.  So much pain and agony has been endured by the people, Nasheed with his cultic seduction, has managed to take control of the minds of young people supplying them small doses of drugs, and secure places to engage in extra marital "free" sex.

In his dire desperation the MDP cult has engaged Black magic and sorcery  to force President Dr. Mohamed Waheed out of Office.  Smoking rituals are a daily occurring in the Usfasgandu.  A police raid on the Usfasgandu area revealed material that were used in  sorcery practice tied to the wings of the crows that were caged, and branches of shrubs and bushes.

These are symptoms of cultic beginnings.  With the blessing of the Commonwealth leadership particularly the CMAG and a few in the CW Secretariat whose names we wish not to reveal for the moment,  Mr. Nasheed continues his campaign of vandalizing and destroying its social fabric of our society, calling for change of the constitution to accommodate religious pluralism in the country.

The Commonwealth Crusade

Kamalesh Sharma Secretary General of Commonwealth

Ever since Mohamed Nasheed resigned from office as President of Maldives, his friends and allies in the west particularly in England mounted undue pressure on the Maldivian Government claiming he was deposed in a coup d’état.  The Commonwealth under pressure from the British based pressure group “The Friends of Maldives” suspended Maldives from CMAG and placed Maldives on its formal agenda.

In an unexpected twist of events Commonwealth called for “Early Elections” in the Maldives to support Mr. Nasheed’s call regardless of the fact it was aware that there was no provision for an “Early Elections” in the current Constitution of Maldives.

The enhanced mandate of the CMAG approved in Perth in October 2011 allowed it to place a country on its agenda only if there was
  1. Unilateral abrogation of a democratic constitution or serious threats to constitutional rule
  2. The suspension or prevention of the lawful functioning of parliament or other key democratic institutions
  3. The postponement of national elections without constitutional or other reasonable justification
  4. The systematic denial of political space, such as through detention of political leaders or restriction of freedom of association, assembly or expression.”

Commonwealth is blinded to the demonstrations in
Maldives against Nasheed.
None of the above conditions occurred in the Maldives. The transition of power that took place on February 7, 2012 was peaceful and was in accordance with the Law of the Land as prescribed in the Constitution. When an incumbent President resigns or the post becomes vacant for any reason, the Vice President is required to take the post of President.  Despite the realities, CMAG has insisted on keeping Maldives on its agenda. The Commonwealth Ministerial Mission that visited Maldives from 17-19 February and was unable to determine whether any of the above four conditions exists in the Maldives.

President Waheed reiterated his willingness to cooperate with the Commonwealth despite the fact that, the CMAG lacked the mandate to place the Maldives on its agenda. His Administration cooperated with the Commonwealth and accepted what he called were reasonable suggestions that would make the outcome of the Commission of National Inquiry CNI; an Inquiry Commission setup by Presidential decree to investigate into the events that led to the resignation of Mohamed Nasheed then president on February 07, 2012, credible and acceptable to all parties concerned.

The latest odyssey the Government is confronted with by the Commonwealth-Nasheed Alliance is Nasheed’s claim for representation in the CNI.  This claim is vehemently backed by Sir Donald MacKinnon former Secretary General and now special envoy to the Maldives.  There seem to be a clandestine sentiment for Mr. Nasheed by the out of fashion Colonial Organization, the Commonwealth.

Under pressure from Commonwealth, the government agreed to allow a retired foreign judge and a representative of Nasheed to sit on the panel. To make it look good the Commonwealth recommended the government agree to the following selection criteria.  It was recommended that the selected individual
  • Be a person of integrity with high ethical, moral and professional standards with at least an undergraduate degree from a recognized university
  • Not have been politically active during the past two years
  • Not have held a Cabinet post or served as a member of the People’s Majlis during the past two years
  • Not have taken a public stand on the events of 7 February 2012.”

Nasheed has forwarded nearly ten names, non that falls within the agreed criteria. Commonwealth pressure on the government remains unabated to accept Nasheed’s recommendations despite the fact. The names suggested by Nasheed are:
1. Mr. Mohamed Aslam (Minister of Housing and Environment in Nasheed’s Cabinet at the time of the resignation);
2. Ms. Shifa Mohamed (Minister of Education in Nasheed’s Cabinet at the time of the resignation and MDP activist entrusted in organizing rallies against Government Ministers.);
3. Mr. Hassan Latheef (Minister of Human Resources, Youth and Sports in Nasheed’s Cabinet at the time of the resignation and MDP activist, who has been assigned to act as the lawyer to MDP unconstitutional activities);
4. Ms. Hudha Ahmed (a cousin of Nasheed and MDP activist)
5. Ms. Aishath Velezinee (a State Minister in Nasheed’s Government at the time of the resignation and MDP activist, who is the assigned to undertake covert social media operations)
6. Mr. Bandhu Ibrahim Saleem (former Managing Director of Maldives Airport Company Limited, who is married to Nasheed’s wife’s aunty),
7. Ms. Fareesha Abdulla (former Under Secretary, Legal Affairs, at the President’s Office at the time of the resignation)
8. Ms. Hisaan Hussain (former legal affairs Secretary in the Nasheed administration and MDP activist, who is presently working on hate mongering on the social media like Facebook)
9. Ms. Mariya Didi  (former MDP Chairperson, current contender for the MDP President and MDP activist)
10.Lieutenant Colonel Zubair Ahmed Manik (uncle of Nasheed and serving member of Maldives National Defense Force)

In a press release, Sir Donald said: “It is imperative that confidentiality is preserved while these sensitive discussions are ongoing in order to provide space for the parties to reach a desirable outcome.”  This is the limit of secrecy and tolerance that Donald and Commonwealth would ensuring for this ludicrous criminal Mohamed Nasheed (former President), who masterminded the torching of the police stations and court houses in the Southern Atoll of Addu.

Britain through its engine designed to sustain colonialism; the Commonwealth is replaying the ugly role it played in India during India’s struggle to free itself form the thievery of England.

“Commonwealth of Nation” as it is called is made up of former colonies of the “British Empire”. Britain along with Australia and Canada normally opt to insidious methods of living its colonial and racist past to exercise control over the former colonies through the Commonwealth of Nations.  Clearly, in this 21st century, one country or an organization meddling with the internal affairs of another is barbaric and unacceptable.  Nonetheless, CMAG and the Secretary General of Commonwealth and its ambassadors feel it quite justified in bullying the little country striving to overcome and put behind the colossal economic mismanagement and unconstitutional activities that Nasheed has left behind.

The Government of Maldives wrote to the Secretary General of the colonial organization Mr. Kamalesh Sharma, but to no avail. He felt justified in going along with the former President Mr. Nasheed. Clearly commonwealth sympathies are with Nasheed and the Colonial Organization is clearly blinded.  Whereas Mr. Kamalesh Sharma should be demanding an investigation into the suspension of the constitution and the kidnapping of the Criminal Court Head Judge Abdulla Mohamed by the military on the orders of Nasheed, and those economic and social crimes Nasheed engaged in during his three year  tenure in office, Kamalesh feels quite justified in ignoring these hideous crimes, and continues to mount pressure on the government in Maldives to probe into Nasheed’s claim that he was ousted in a military coup.

The Commonwealth's Boy Nasheed vicious and wicked.
surprising semblance of Hitler in Nasheed.
The cynical intention and manner of the Commonwealth becomes apparent from their press release, where the “Commonwealth urged the preservation of the confidentiality of matters related to the CNI after Nasheed had expressed concern over the government publicizing his every nomination to the Commission”.  Commonwealth seems to accept Nasheed playing his immature childish game of sending in names of relatives and cronies to be placed on the CNI a position that Commonwealth advocated on behalf of Nasheed.

Vicious and Wicked
surprising semblance of Nasheed in Hitler
To the Commonwealth the Maldivian people has just this to say, would you care to come to Maldives and see for yourself who is behind the crimes against our society committed in the name of democracy? Who is using drugs, and prostitution as a means of attracting the youth and in the process destroying the social fabric of the country in the name of freedom rallies? And who is spreading the gospel of hate, animosity and decent amongst the population through hate speeches in the name of freedom of speech? These issues are apparent the moment one sets foot on the once peaceful and lovely islands. Now torn apart by this venomous ex-president who lured the people into believing he is a democrat.

People who advocate democracy and freedom of speech before coming to power once in power ruthlessly subdue the people and sows the seed of tyranny and autocracy to remain in power. Among the classical examples are Nasheed of Maldives, Mubarak of Egypt and Gadhafi of Libya.

Cult Personality of Mohamed Nasheed

Mohamed Nasheed
Mohamed Nasheed the 4th President of Maldives has proven to be a ruthless dictator whose crackdown on internal dissent left more than 1,000 Maldivians jobless and in jail. What happened to the democratic president committed to modernizing his country (along Western lines)? Nasheed is not the first young reformer to turn out to be a fanatical leader engrossed by the spice of high office. In Libya, the London School of Economics educated Saif al-Islam Gaddafi – Son of Muammar Gaddafi, presented himself as a voice of reform, sadly only to have become, a diehard tyrannical ruler.

To bolster claims that he was a closet reformer, “Baby Doc” Duvalier released some political prisoners when he took over in Haiti but he eventually fled the country 15 years later with the blood of thousands on his hands. Gamal Mubarak “has been the leading voice in favor of change within the government and the ruling party,” argued Lord Peter Benjamin Mandelson, British Labor Party politician, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Hartlepool shortly before Egyptians successfully ousted the elder Mubarak and exposed the son’s corrupt, U.S. assisted dealings.

It’s not just these so called democratic dictators that fool outsider observers into equating youth with change. Meles Zenawi was only 36 when he became the president of Ethiopia in 1991. Widely viewed as a “reformer” by the West, Zenawi has been at the helm for the last 20 years, his rule marked by electoral fraud, considerable repression in parts of the country, and military intervention in Somalia. Yoweri Musaveni took over Uganda at the age of 47 and was widely heralded as part of a new generation of African democrats, but war and domestic oppression have characterized his long reign as well.  Democracies are not immune from this particular political fallacy. Young voices for change (Tony Blair, Barack Obama) often align themselves with powerful economic and political interests (the military, the financial sector), and end up strengthening the very status quo they promised to change.

Newcomers like Nasheed however committed to change; at a personal level rarely have the institutional clout to make their mark. As they consolidate power, power in turn transforms them. Paradoxically, it’s often the old-timers who end up transforming the systems. The MDP top notch like Reeko Moosa, Maria and Ibrahim Hussein Zaki are the ones who hack apart the party, manipulate and dictate terms on Nasheed. Taking down a system is easier if you know the system’s weak points from the inside. And if you rise to the top of the system, you by definition have a base of support from which to operate.

Mikhail Gorbachev was an apparatchik of long standing, a true believer who ultimately restructured the Soviet Union out of existence. F.W. de Klerk was not only an architect of apartheid but widely considered one of the more conservative National Party members, until he changed his mind, his party, and along with Nelson Mandela and the African National Congress, all of South Africa. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom too was widely believed to be a reformer, before he came into power. But while in power, he found that the status quo of the Maldivian Political system did not allow him to bring drastic changes. If he did then there would have been more chaos than now.

Instead he developed the youth with modern education in required spheres. After 30 years of a semi benevolent dictatorial rule he introduced an extremely good democratic system into Maldives. But unfortunately the so called reformers used the democratic platform and hijacked the whole system into a cult obsessed system. The jury is still out on Burmese President Thein Sein, but as a military man and junta leader who initiated some important reforms, he may well have set out on the same trajectory as Gorbachev and de Klerk. None of these figures, of course, did it by themselves.

We ridicule countries that operate cults of personality – North Korea, Uzbekistan – and pat ourselves on the back that we reserve such embarrassing displays of adulation for guys who throw balls, gals who star in reality shows, and teenagers who sing pop music. At least such idols don’t kill people. But alongside our celebration of celebrities, we also have a stealth personality cult: like the present MDP rallies that terrorize innocent Maldivians sleeping peaceful at night. We insist, overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that only individuals, not institutions, make history. We are constantly on the lookout for the heroic leader who can single-handedly transform the warp and weave of their society. When a movement is leaderless like the MDP movement or the leadership is dispersed as with so much of the Arab Spring, we’re not quite sure what to make of it.

We are trapped in the personality cult that our culture of individualism has created. So, when a transition takes place, as in North Korea, we ask all the wrong questions: who is Kim Jong Un, what are his politics, has his Swiss education influenced him, who are the individuals behind Kim Jong Un, will the young Kim transform his country? But to understand the future of North Korea, you must understand the key institutions in the society – the party, the military, and now the rising economic elite. Kim Jong Un’s possible love of fondue or American basketball is largely irrelevant. Just as the North Korean authorities are preparing the groundwork for the new leader’s personality cult, we unconsciously perform the rites of our own analytical personality cult by focusing on Kim Jong UN’s personal predilections.

We made the same mistake with Mohamed Nasheed when we assumed that his personality would shape the Maldivian system rather than the other way around. He proved to be a tyrant in disguise. “One-man rule and the perpetuation of party dynasties, monopolies of wealth and power, the silencing of the media, the deprivation of fundamental freedoms that are the birthright of every man, woman and child on this planet. To all of this, the people say: enough!”

Let's not make the same mistake again. Mohamed Nasheed has developed a Cult personality, he has dragged a segment of our population into a civil war, just like in Sri Lanka when Rohan Wijeweera and the JVP movement, Che and Castro Movement. We must to surgically eliminate this new age worshipper,

Nasheed: Does he deserve your vote

Now that the boogie man fp. Nasheed (Anni) is out of office, keep him like that on the streets. If the people of Maldives elect him again he will start his Revenge Strategy again on the people. We saw this during his rule, what did he do? He sacked every single person who was not a member of his party from the government. Elected again he will take revenge on every single person who did not participate in his rallies. He has openly said so.

Attending a meeting with his Zionist counterparts
A maniac and mentally disturbed person he would not hesitate to do anything. In his disturbed mind he believes Maldives belongs to him. He is a schizophrenic.  He promises the youth dreams of night clubs social clubs and all the stuff that entices the youth, but once in power he forgets all these promises and begin helping his colleagues rob the treasury.

Unfortunately some opportunistic youth in our nation persuades other innocent youth to join their cavalry to oppose what is good and side with evil. These young people are the advocates of evil. Nasheed behavior has much similarity with the devil in out religious teaching. I could picture him like a man with a tail and with an anchor shape tail end, Long ears and a crooked nose and a set of long Dracula teeth. He lures out youth to vocally voice out filthy words towards decent people, have hash oil, and take them into a trance where they fall prey to evil and eventually turn out to be hit men working for Nasheed revenge activities against opposition leaders and their families.

As usual, will not comment on his Zionist
connection when questioned
Nasheed doesn't seem to have knowledge of anything other than to be on the streets. Somehow he loves protests disruptions and chaos.  He doesn't seem to understand peacefulness, working together, amicably solving problems and forgiveness.  He is an introverted criminal mastermind full of vengeance and hatred.  Nasheed does not have the decency to talk without yelling. He is pressed into a hate machine and spreading the gospel of hate and animosity.

In conclusion I could say that this hate machine in on the loose. It would never stop until it destroys Maldives or get itself destroyed.  He would give messages of unity, justice and peace. But n actual fact he would be doing just the opposite. So does this lunatic man deserve your vote?

Good Luck Maldives you really have got a psychopath on the loose.

Unfolding Maldives Judicial Melodrama

Senior MDP Officials and the President is in Criminal Contempt of Court.

With little hope of a negotiated settlement on the unfolding Melodrama of President Nasheed’s rule of Maldives, he now appears to be bracing in for the ultimate fight like Colonel Muamar Gadhafi, Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak did during their last days in office. Self-proclaimed democrat Mohamed Nasheed’s short period in office has been mystified with arbitrary arrest of opposition leaders, seizures of Judges and forceful shutting of the Supreme Court of Maldives.

On the wee hours of 16th January the nation was plunged into yet another chaotic situation with the abduction of the Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed (Abdulla Qazi) from his house and holding him in involuntary confinement without any legal basis by the military. This action was prompted after Judge Abdulla Mohamed released an opposition leader who was detained by the police without a warrant for allegedly defaming the government.

The High Court and the Supreme Court issued judgment to release Judge Abdulla Mohamed immediately without precondition.  President Nasheed has failed to comply with the ruling thus far. The opposition claims “The President is in Contempt of Supreme Court” and demands legal action. A Joint anti-Nasheed demonstration is now making its way into the second week in Male.

Mr. Umar Naseer Vice President of PPM claims, they will continue the demonstrations until Judge Abdulla is released, the authority of the Judiciary established and those guilty of criminal offences against the constitution and the people of Maldives are punished.

In his weekly radio address to the nation the President claimed Constitutional Authority over the Judiciary and the Legislature to ensure smooth functioning of the Constitution, but stopped short of declaring Martial Law and suspension of the Constitution, although on previous occasions he has been quoted as saying that the Constitution is in state of Suspense.

The wrangling over interpretation of the 2008 constitution’s definitions on the rights and responsibilities of the three separated powers amongst the political parties continues, with each side differing in their interpretations. Refusal of the Government and failure of the opposition to follow constitutional guidelines set out for the interpretation of the Constitution through the Supreme Court is fuelling the Oppositions March now, well into its eighth day.

Chapter II - Fundamental Freedoms Article 69 of the  2008 Constitution states “ No provision of the Constitution shall be interpreted or translated in a manner that would grant to the State or any group or person the right to engage in any activity or perform any act aimed at the destruction of the rights and freedoms set out in this Constitution”.
Chapter IV - The Judiciary, Article 145c goes on to state; “The Supreme Court shall be the final authority on the interpretation of the Constitution, the Law, and any other matter dealt with by a court of law  .

In a leaked recording of the President’s address to the Police on January 26, 2012, he expresses his decision to instruct the Ministry of Finance to withhold the salaries of all the Judges in all the lower courts of Maldives. This is without doubt an attempt to disrupt the process of Justice in the country which tantamount to nothing short of criminal contempt of Court.

Contempt of Court? Yes indeed! Any willful disobedience to, or disregard of, a court order or any misconduct in the presence of a court; any action that interferes with a judge's ability to administer justice or that insults the dignity of the court; is a contempt of court.  It is a charge which can result in fines and jail time and should not stop short of an Impeachment in the case of a President being in contempt of Court.

There are two types of contempt civil and criminal contempt. In addition, contempt can be either direct (occurs in front of the judge and disrupts the court proceedings) or indirect (occurs outside the presence of the judge). Civil contempt occurs when a person refuses to obey a court order. Civil contempt can be "purged" by following the court order. A fine, confinement in jail, or both can be imposed for civil contempt. Criminal contempt involves conduct that interferes with or obstructs justice. Examples of criminal contempt include threatening or insulting a judge or witness and disobeying a subpoena to produce evidence. With criminal contempt, the act of contempt has been completed and the contempt cannot be "purged." The punishment is imposed to vindicate the court's authority.
On a sad note it appears that the Maldivian honey moon with democracy has turned into a wild lusty Demon-cracy with the police forces by night.  The fear of this scenario repetition in subsequent administrations is beginning to baffle the public.  The question that remains to be answered is how could this lunacy be stopped, and what measures need to be taken prevent repetition of abuse of power by subsequent leaders?

The Flip flopping character of Mohamed Zuhair (Juhaa)

The Gazi is not with us I don't know where he is.
hey, it's a Joke.. Don't take me too seriously.
The Dictator President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed is lucky to get the spokesperson which suits best his own character, notorious Mohamed Zuhair. Better known as “Juhaa” the court jester. Coincidently he is the best person ever to be the spokesperson for Anni.

Mohamed Zuhair has a reputation for not answering questions, he generally wanders into ecstasy with a statement from his brain and not answer to the question he was asked.  This appears to have been true even during his school days, and is believed to be one of the reasons why he failed all the exams in school, ending up as a wanderer getting involved in drug abuse and addition, subsequently sentenced many times for drug and substance abuse.

The days during his imprisonment, led to the increase in this phenomena.  His close friends have confessed that they had great difficulty in conversing with him. He always starts with a NO to everything, gives irrelevant examples and after much argument would suddenly say YES, and within a spilt second say NO again. This approach drives rational people into a metal delirium.  Many are inclined to think that he doesn’t have a mental problem but is simply arrogant and irrational. But in actual fact Zuhair (Juhaa) suffers from an acute mental disorder.

This problem generally is difficult to recognize, but one should have many conversations with such a patient to identify the inconsistency in his arguments. However, President Nasheed (Anni) is lucky to have Juhaa, because Anni himself is suffering from a similar mental condition that is susceptible to colossal forgetfulness. Anni never remembers what he promises and promises what he doesn’t remember. But such people who suffer from this extreme subtle mental condition generally do not spectacle any outward abnormalities, but journalists,  pressmen and political analysts often see the imperative of discord in opinions and actions of such people.

Generally such people do not gain national recognition. But unfortunately Maldivians have inherited one such President and a spokesperson. Rational Maldivians trying to make sense of what these guys of talk and promise and are finding it increasingly difficult to comprehend. Many have stopped listening to the many talk shows and radio programs in which Anni or Juhaa appear, simply because, it drives listeners nuts and crazy. The listener baffles all day and night trying to make sense of what they have been hearing. Political critics go crazy trying to understand their point. TV journalist never figures out what their point of view. On many occasions, they would contradict their own view point in two different TV interviews.  If they give a speech, on a particular issue they are everywhere, flipping and flopping, no particular issue, or point of view. The President’s speeches are bundles of riddles, were audience are left baffled and confused.

When asked about the constitution answer you’d get is about a project the government is carrying on. When asked about a project the answer would be about a presidential trip, and on it goes the list is never ending. This is what has happened to the MDP party members.  Every night they listen to crazy speeches that cause a disillusion and the audience is taken into a stance where they are neither here nor there. Utterly confused, their faculties of ethical reasoning totally shut down like animals their only goal becomes to live and prey on the opposition, becoming a prey themselves.

“People in mental hospitals are easy to understand because they suffer from extreme conditions, but the metal health of our leaders is much more subtle”.

The People will Prevail...

Article forwarded by Moosa Ali/Udheresvilla, Male

Defiant and hot tempered  as ever.  President Nasheed is
considered a threat to the Nation

President Nasheed's stupidity has plunged the nation into chaos, His demonstration of stupidity and in experience of leadership, has ruined the international reputation and the economy of this once so called the paradise. Maldivians had great hope when they elected a new president in 2008, but to their dismay the hope changed to military gaining over this drug addict president and military's heavy handedness leading to arbitrary arrests and abduction of innocent citizens not giving them their basic constitutional rights. The Military abducting judges, threatening the media, wearing terrorist gear and stoning TV stations, and spending taxpayer’s money as if it’s their own money are some of the evil atrocities.

Every night the Maldivian military with mask covered faces forcefully enter homes and terrorize innocent people sleeping peacefully while the abduction of people continues. And like the silence of the lambs, the victims cry all night, only to find out at dawn a loved one has been abducted.

Night after night citizens protest, begging the military to act within their constitutional powers, but to no avail the police and the military brutally crush their protests with tear gas, pepper spray, and stun guns. Nightly scores get arrested and many get treated in hospitals, some for major baton injuries.

Major General of the Maldivian Armed Forces Moosa Jaleel had been a very popular figure with the public. But due to his association with this Dictator Mohamed Nasheed, Moosa Jaleel is being seen as aiding this Dictator to stay in power, even when 80% of the Citizens are against the Nasheed regime.

The Independent Institutions like the Supreme Court, High court, and the lower court has condemned the actions of President Nasheed as unconstitutional and against the newly adopted constitution of Maldives. Abducting judges like Chief Justice Abdulla Mohamed at night by the anti-terrorist force of the military, just because he refused to execute summary detention of political opponents.

A Prominent Parliamentarian and a popular lawyer, Nasheed (Kutti) during the demonstration against the abduction of judges addressed to the armed forces personnel standing beside the demonstrators said, "even if you crush me with all your might, every drop of my blood will still say that the abduction of Justice Abdulla Gazee is illegal and unconstitutional".

The hunger for democracy and freedom is unrelenting. The citizens of Maldives are not going to surrender to another dictator. President Nasheed is mistaken. The families of the military and the police lives amongst the very public they beat and use pepper spray. Every tear the public shed would eventually translate into anger and determination.

Their wrath would ultimately translate into reciprocity against the fellow citizens who are abusing the power vested by the citizens.

There is no abyss deep enough
There is no army strong enough

President Nasheed in contempt of Court over case of abducted Judge Abdulla Mohamed

Police Brutality in Maldives
The heavy handed approach of Nasheed is showing signs of leaks and cracks in his government.  On Sunday, the Foreign Minister supposedly asked the United Nations to mediate in the ongoing standoff with the opposition that is making its way into the second week.  Ahmed Naseem wrote to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights the notoriously popular Navanethem (Navi) Pillay, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights asking for a team of senior foreign jurists to mediate.

In his letter Mr. Naseem wrote, “The opposition protests by roughly 300 people have resulted in minor violence and scores of arrests, and follow a series of similar struggles over the past year which has begun to feature hardline Islamic rhetoric”.  It remains for the UNHCHR team to see and witness the protests of “roughly 300 people” or a gathering in their thousands, congregating and protesting peacefully every night tirelessly wowing to continue their struggle until President Nasheed toe the line.

Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed
The Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed’s summary abduction by the Military on orders from President Nasheed sparked the nationwide protests.  However, it was the cumulative result of anger and discontent of the public over the government’s aristocratic type rule and its refusal to accommodate the demands of the December 24th 2011 peaceful demonstration, which also demanded an apology from Navi Pillay for her blasphemous speech addressed to the Maldivian Parliament in 2011.

Navi Pillay UNHCHR
Navi Pillay is a catalyst to the current situation; it was her little speech to the parliament that sparked this situation which has now spun out of control and is causing much pain, suffering and hurting both the government and people. It is unlikely that a positive outcome will result from any mediation which will fall short of an apology from Pillay.  The more concerning question that awaits an answer is if the UN can mediate a legitimate and amicable solution on the case of Nasheed government’s contempt of Court and its standoff with the Supreme Court Ruling. Mr. Nasheed is in contempt of the Supreme Court ruling to release Justice Abdulla Mohamed.

A comment by an anonymous reader of this blog makes me wonder if “Nasheed's actions actually have the features of a well-designed agenda”. Perhaps it does, the reader states, “It all started with the UN Human Rights Commissioner, Navi Pillay's little speech to the parliament - It has now again gone back to her with a request from the Dictator to involve what Foreign Minister Naseem calls ‘UN legal expertise’”. Will the opposition yield to anything short of an apology?

Scary comments from the public include, “The bells continue to ring an unless Maldivian opposition leadership take heed of these warning bells, depose the Dictator and drum out the entire regime, the word ISLAM will be totally erased from the Maldivian constitution.” Could that be true? It remains to be seen if Mr. Nasheed can muster sufficient votes in parliament pass such a bill.

President Nasheed Commander -in-Chief
Anger over abusive statements made by the President towards Islam and mockery towards Prophet Mohamed is at an all-time high among both the population in Male and more so in the Islands.  Nasheed, who has been President for little over 3 years, has virtually destroyed the constitutional government of the country. By the end his five years in office he would be leaving behind a legacy of greed, corruption and debt that Maldivians would struggle for decades to overcome. Mohamed Nasheed has begun a dirty and vicious campaign to gain control of all the three powers of Government in Maldives with the help of a revolutionary group of military commanders in the MNDF.

Like his predecessor, Nasheed enjoys to pause for a photograph in Uniform as Commander -in-Chief.

A War worth winning!

Article forwarded by Moosa Ali/Udheresvilla, Male

Dictator Nasheed
The Maldivian government under Nasheed has begun a brutal crackdown of the free speech in Maldives. It was during the 30 year regime of President Gayoom towards the last days of the regime, Gayoom was forced to accept a new constitution that gave all Maldivians the freedom of thought and expression. Nasheed used this opportunity to bash the Gayoom’s Regime and the media backed him and with all these weapons Nasheed came into power.

Unfortunately for the Maldivians, they gave power to a massive vicious wolf in a sheep skin. Nasheed's first years in power was consolidating both the police and the military under his direct control. Then he moved to control the judiciary by ordering the military to lock up the Supreme Court and arrest and bring the Chief Justice to the military headquarters where he sat with the military top brass and intimidated the Chief Justice. After much pressure from the International Embassies and the opposition political parties in the Parliament, Nasheed released the Chief Justice and came to a compromise to elect a new Supreme Council with a new Chief Justice of his choice.

Then he moved to control the finances of the nation. How? By attacking the parliament appointed Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority. He summoned the Governor to the President’s Office and threatened him to print new money and release money from the reserves for the government. Ultimately the Governor had to give something to this blood thirsty wolf and did release some money from the reserves to the government. Then he started attracting the governor thought his cronies in the parliament and put forward a vote of no confidence of the Governor, matter still pending.

His next target was to intimidate the opposition party leaders and keep them in fear. Suddenly he asks the whole cabinet to resign, and asks all his cabinet members to get on to the streets and protest against the parliament to forcefully reject the Finance bill that checks his lavish unscrupulous spending of state funds. On this pretext he came on TV and said that opposition parliamentarians are using bribes to buy votes in the parliament and thus out of nowhere with no evidence asked the military to arrest two of the leading opposition members. Finally after Supreme Court’s ruling that it's unconstitutional he was forced to release them. And his next move was to buy parliament members of the opposition. This he successfully did by offering Rf.16,000,000  to each member from state funds and some corrupt members defected.

Next move was sell all public assets to Indians so that he could get the support of the strongest neighbor of Maldives while he moved to rob the citizens of their motherland and freedom. This he did by giving the airport to an ailing Indian company and condition to manage, operate and develop the airport. From where did the funds from? From the treasury of the Maldivians, then he sold some schools, and tried to sell the hospital but did not get a Indian company willing to accept the hospital.

What next? He has started to devalue the Maldivian rufiyaa which was the strongest in the whole of the south Asian region. The intention is to bring it to align with the Indian Rupee, in so doing he shattered the strong economy to a sick and weak, feeble economy. This has impacted on the citizen’s real wage coming down by 60% overnight, putting over 80% of the people into the poverty trap.

The story goes along this vengeful prophet of anti-Islam hitting on the bedrock of the nation’s dearly kept faith Islam; the very glue that united the nation for more than eight hundred years. Why? So that the institution of Maldivian faith once cracked would allow animosity and hatred to creep in so that Nasheed could suppress and rule the divided community. As the saying goes on UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL.

Now his latest move is to suppress the press. Why? Because the press is exposing the illicit corruption and drug dealing of Nasheed’s party top shots and their un-Islamic stance and actions. Is this a democratic move?

So I say this is a war worth fighting for the sake of democracy, for the sake of Islam, for the sake of Maldives, for the sake of right over wrong and for the sake of our new found freedom. This war with Nasheed the dictator has to be won by the citizens of Maldives. We Maldivians will win this war. Our lives begin and end the day we become silent about things that matter most to us.

Praise be to Allah the most beneficent the most merciful.

Almost 2013 Election

It is very unlikely that a single political party will manage the first round of voting in Maldives this time on. Success in the 2013 Elections will depend on the party that manages to come out with maximum tie-ups and alliances. It's a reference to tie-ups that are productive and generate votes, not those that are unyielding and burdensome where the probability of undesirable result tend to be high.

MDP is quite correctly described as the (Most Distrusted Party) in the Maldives in the article “What is the Political future of our country?” and by the way I like that acronym. Two players that would matter in the forthcoming elections are DRP and PPM. Limping behind these two parties, slandering and defaming their way down the 2013 election lane would be MDP solo without any allies.
For a better understanding of our rationale, we need to look at the grouping that made up the second round of voting in 2008

The MDP coalition on the Second Round Voting in 2008

The DRP coalition on the Second Round Voting in 2008

Do you see the difference that the Mighty Coalition against DRP managed to secure? it's only 8.33%. DRP then led by President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was a popular party indeed.

First Round Voting Results 2008

DRP
71731
40.34%
MDP and Gaumee Ethihad
44293
24.91%
Gaumee Party (Hassan Saeed)
29633
16.67%
Republican Party
27056
15.22%
Islamic Democratic Party (Umar Nasser)
2472
1.39%
Social Liberal (Ibrahim Ismail)
1382
0.77%

The analysis of the first round results tells us an interesting story. From the figures above, it is very evident that although DRP was singled out to be thrown out of office on the second round of voting. The percentage of votes secured by the coalition working together in the second round was only 5.31% more than the sum total of the votes the managed to secure working separately in the first round of voting.   And on the second round, the MDP coalition of all the political parties managed only 8.33% more than what DRP single handedly secured on the second round. This is a point to note, in support of our argument regarding 2013.
Looking at the facts and figures in retrospect, we can establish the true gauge of MDP today and predict the 2013 election. First, we acknowledge and value the contribution of alliance members such as Dr. Hassan Saeed, Mr. Gasim Ibrahim during the second round of voting.  Together they commanded 31.89% of the votes in the first round.  So take away the contribution of these two alliance members, MDP was left with a true value of 21.76% a near approximation of its round one run value of 24.91% of which 3.15%  could be attributed to as Gaumee Itthihaad (GIP) Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Maniku contribution.
In 2013, the table will be turned around.  MDP has failed to be accepted as a viable government it is seen as a party that has not matured and not maldivianised enough to govern this country. MDP failed to understand that we are protective of our religion and country.  During the known 800 years of written history of Maldives, our forefathers have died and martyred for Islam and these islands we call Dhivehi Raajje.  Here is what an insider of MDP said “We shall stand against all forces from within and without that determines to split our nation in the name of development”.
People still feel and fear the sense of insecurity that governed us over the years and to a great extent true even today.  The Nasheed Administration changed fear factor methods from corporal punishment and imprisonment to economic seclusion and social onslaught.  It wouldn’t be wrong therefore to say that the vast majority of our population suffers from Stockholm syndrome .
MDP boasts of an increased membership since they came to power.  These signatures were given in return for material benefit and social security guarantees; it is not a guarantee of a vote.  MDP insiders believe that it has only 19000 voters that are willing to vote to keep the party in power.  The rest of the signatures are only on paper. The realization that MDP has taken us several years back in time fifteen years, if not ten, is something for which many people will avenge MDP in 2013.
